A bad smell coming from the ceiling is hard to live with. In homes around Bulimba, it usually comes from one of three things: possum urine soaked into insulation, a build-up of droppings, or an animal that has died in the roof or a wall. It can also spread through the house through downlights and vents. We book a local crew who can track down the source and deal with it.
The crew we book starts by working out where the smell is strongest, both inside the rooms and up in the roof space. They look for wet patches, stains, flies and soiled insulation. They take photos where they can so you can see what they found. Once they find the source, they remove it, clean the area and apply an odour treatment. A typical odour job includes:
- Finding the source of the smell in the roof or wall
- Removing waste, soaked insulation or a dead animal
- Cleaning and sanitising the affected timber and boards
- Applying an odour treatment to the area
- Tips on airing the room below over the next few days
Some smells fade within a day or two, while others take longer if urine has soaked deep into timber or plaster. Warm weather tends to make a smell stronger, so it may seem worse on hot afternoons. The crew will tell you what to expect. If a stain has come through the ceiling, they can point it out so you can plan any painting later.
If you have a smell in a Queenslander or older home in Bulimba, the space under the floor can also be a source, so mention that when you call. To book odour removal, call 07 3543 7770. We will ask a few questions and give you an upfront price.
