When an animal dies in the roof or a wall, the smell usually shows up within a few days and gets worse in warm weather. Flies may appear around light fittings or windows. It is one of the more unpleasant calls we take from homes in Bulimba, and it is not a job most people want to do themselves. We book a local crew to find and remove it.
The crew we book uses the smell and any fly activity to narrow down the spot. In the roof space this is usually quick to reach. If the animal is inside a wall cavity, they may need to make a small access hole, and they will talk to you before doing that. Gloves and masks are used throughout. The job generally covers:
- Locating the animal in the roof, wall or under the floor
- Removing and bagging the animal and any soiled material
- Cleaning and sanitising the area where it was found
- An odour treatment to help the smell clear
- Checking for the gap the animal used to get in
Most dead animals found in roofs around Bulimba are possums or rats. Finding how the animal got in is useful, because the same gap will let the next one through. The crew can seal it on the same visit if you want. If the gap is somewhere hard to reach, they will explain the options.
The smell may take a few days to fade once the animal is out, especially if fluids have soaked into the timber or insulation. Keeping the room aired helps. Leave the manhole closed until the crew arrives. To book dead animal removal, call 07 3543 7770 and describe where the smell is strongest. We will give you an upfront price and book the crew.
